Week 3, Day 6

Day 20
Kempo, and weigh-day.  I got up this morning and weighed myself right away.
 *Drum Roll*
283.5lbs. That's fifteen and one-half pounds in twenty days.  I'm excited, but I'm still very heavy, and still very much overweight.  Need to keep on "bringin' it" for the next 70 days!  1/5 of the way through!  I "dorked-out" and calculated the slope of my weight loss.  Right now it's a -.776 slope, which is insanely steep, according to that I would be 229.5lbs. by day 90.  Of course my weight loss is not going to be linear, if I had to guess it would be asymptotic.  I'm not sure how to calculate that though, I would need to ask someone way smarter than me.
Well pushing forward, I enjoyed the workout, although I'm a little sore.  Torched 805 calories in 58 minutes.  That's a little scary!  Food isn't going to be an issue today either, everything is already planned.  Chicken egg-white omelet for breakfast, whole wheat pasta and meatballs for lunch, and roasted veggies with baked chicken for dinner!  Not to mention, my favorite protein bars for snacks!

Helpful Tips

Fruit Smoothies
Blueberries, Bananas, Pineapple, Strawberries, Raspberries, Peaches and Blackberries.  (Experiment as you feel inspired, I have done mango and I am planning on trying Kiwi).  The tricky part is preparing the fruit into 4oz. portions, then combining those portions to form 16oz. portions.  After combining the portions together in a large ziplock back, I roll them up and store them in the freezer.  An example would look something like this.
Peach Raspberry Smoothie
8oz. of Canned Peach Chunks (drained)
  4oz. of Raspberries
  1 Banana (considered 4oz. portion)
Note: Make sure you peel the banana and break it in half before you freeze it.
In the morning, place the fruit in the microwave on auto-defrost for .4-.5lbs or 3.5-4 minutes.  Put the fruit in the blender, then add 4oz. of low-fat milk, and 4oz. of a delicious 100% fruit juice.  You can choose pomegranate, orange, cranberry, and or basically any kind of real juice that you think would be tasty.  After the fruit and liquids are combined in the blender, let it sit there for 15-20 minutes.  Then you are ready to blend.  Blend on low speed for 1-2 minutes.  Let sit for 1 minute, then blend it at a medium speed for 1 more minute, and serve immediately.
You can skip the entire process by just combining everything in the blender carafe the night before, and let it sit in the fridge for the night.  In the morning it'll be combined and thawed enough to just take it out of the fridge and start the blending process.
Note: If the liquid at the top isn't rotating toward the bottom, it may not be thawed enough (let it rest for 5 minutes and try again), or an air pocket might have developed from blending it too fast (turn it off and let the bubble rise to the surface then start again).

Chicken Bake
I can't tell you how great it has been to have pre-prepared chicken for the week.
Early in the week I buy my favorite brand of chicken tenderloins.  About 1-1.5 pounds worth.  Then I gather up some garlic, crushed red pepper flake, grill seasonings, salt, and pepper.  (You can do whatever you think might be tasty).  I combine all the spices and the chicken in a bowl and toss it until they are all thoroughly coated.  Then I put all the chicken in a pyrex dish and cook them in the oven 350 degrees for about 25-30 minutes.  I check it often making sure I don't over cook them.  If you're unsure just pull the dish out, and try and pull the chicken apart with a fork.  It should come apart easily and be tender and moist.  You can store the chicken in a plastic container in the fridge.
Now you can make delicious omelets, sandwiches, and salads all week long without having to worry about cooking the chicken anymore!

Turkey Bacon
Personally, I like the taste of Turkey Bacon better than regular bacon.  I'll probably catch a lot of grief for that, but at least understand that turkey bacon is significantly better for you.  It's like a tender thin piece of jerkey!  Try to find some decent quality turkey bacon in your local food store, there are some packages for like $0.60 for 100 pieces, just do yourself a favor and spend the $2.50 on some decent turkey bacon.
When you get home, don't even freeze the bacon, prepare a cookie sheet by spraying all natural cooking spray on it, placing a large piece of wax paper over the surface, then spray the wax paper with the cooking spray.  Line up your bacon strips so they overlap ever-so-slightly, pre-heat the oven to 375, and cook them for 20 minutes.
Wrap these bad boys in a plastic bag and store them in the fridge for the rest of the week!  Easy, easy, easy, great for all your sandwich and salad needs!  (Or you can sneak them into egg-white omelets like me!)

Week 3, Day 5

Day 19
Legs and Back, Abs.  I wasn't as ready to "bring it" as I should have been today.  But, somewhere between the "chair pose" and "reverse-grip pull-ups" I found my second wind.  At the end I maxed out my pull-ups at fourteen (with assistance from the chair of course), and I really felt the burn.  The only problem was I was so spent from the Legs and Back, the Ab exorcises that followed were embarrassing at best.  I really really struggled.  Sometimes only doing 2-3 out of 25 reps.  However, I was able to do twelve "pulse-ups" which is a new record for me (previously none).  Last time I was able to do 30/50 of the "mason twists," with a 20-break-break-10 method.  But today I did a break-break-20-break method and only managed a meager 20/50.  Hard not to feel defeated after such a defeating Ab Ripper workout, but I need to keep myself encouraged, because frankly, three and a half weeks ago I wasn't getting 10 minutes of exorcise a week - now I'm getting about 60 minutes per day.
Eating well, staying focused.  Last night made some whole wheat pasta and meatballs.  I avoided the grinder, and just stuck to a cup of pasta.  For breakfast today I had a frozen fruit smoothie and a "turkey bacon and parmesan cheese, egg-white-omelet."  Turkey bacon is great by the way!  Might have to thaw out the lean beef we bought and make some chili tonight.  Also, I need to prep the chicken for the rest of the week. Tomorrow is "weigh-day #2," I'm nervous and excited all at the same time.

Week 3, Day 4

Day 18
Yoga, yoga, yoga...  Man this exorcise is tough.  My wife actually skipped today because it's so daunting.  An hour a day is a tough squeeze in today's society, but an hour and a half may just be too much.  After the first 45 minutes I'm just about spent, then I look up and I see another 45 minutes to go!
Long day today, massive amounts of reports for school, don't feel like writing much more.  Two more days until weigh in.

Week 3, Day 3

Day 17
Shoulders, Arms, Abs today.  I had a lot of fun this morning, but I need to invest in a heavier band, because the one I'm using I don't really get the burn I need until 17-18 reps.  It was freezing in my house (like 52 degrees), so I decided to work out in sweats for the first time.  Once I broke a sweat I just took off my sweatshirt.  Abs were killer again, but I am getting better.  I can do much more "V-Ups" than I used to, I'm at about 8 now (previously 1-2).  I am struggling with the "pulse-ups," however.
I'm finding breakfast to be the hardest meal of the day for me to plan.  We go shopping tomorrow and I'm going to invest in some Turkey bacon, a carton of egg whites, some soy sausage, and a few red peppers.  See if that gets me through the week.  After day thirty I need to remember to do a (1/3) update.  Also I'm going to edit some of my first posts so I can post my pre-p90x weight and goals.  Also I am considering going to weekly updates, the main reason I haven't yet, is because daily blogging my progress keeps me motivated.

Week 3, Day 2

Day 16
Well, today was Cardio, and that means a hybrid of Yoga, Kempo, Plyometrics, and Core.  I love this day.  I think I would have no problem keeping up with the yoga part, except my feet burn from the pressure.  It's obviously my footwear (because I have flat-feet), they must not be giving me any support.  Nevertheless, about 700 calories this morning.
Food should be easy today, although I've already blown my breakfast.  I just inhaled a Protein Bar, and I ate it pretty late.  Which means snack is probably just going to be a couple tablespoons of peanut butter, and I'll have to swing something creative for lunch.  My wife and I are planning on watching Avatar and having a burrito for dinner.  Still worried I'm not losing weight, but I'm pushing forward.  I am planning on weighing myself again at Day 20.

Week 3, Day 1

Day 15
Core today.  Was brutal as usual.  I feel like I'm doing more of the exorcises now, and can really feel the difference throughout the day.  The program is tough, but for some reason I'm not as sore as I thought I'd be.  Perhaps I'm not trying hard enough.  Oh well...
Prep'd some chicken for more burritos, planning on having those some time this week.  Also, had a few drinks at the bar with a buddy of mine.  Just a little whiskey.  He tried to get me to have some hot wings, and although it is extremely tempting, I managed just to stick to a horseradish burger, no bun, no fries.
